Vedder Super Loop Ride
I use the term “best ever” way to much. Everyone makes fun of me for it. The last ride I went on was the best ever, cause it was the last ride I went on. Every ride is better then the last. But a couple days ago I really had one for the books. I took out a group that consisted of a local, a Vancouverite and a dude from California. The ride was awesome and had everything you could ask for. The finish of the ride was really special as well. I managed to get a bunch of free Old Yale beer from a buddy and then my neighbor caught a bunch of crayfish aka “mini lobsters”. So really this ride was the best ever!
Over the last 20 years I’ve been working hard to connect a series of rideable multi purpose trails to circumnavigate the iconic Vedder mountain. I’ve coined this loop the “Vedder Super Loop”. Its got just about everything you could ask for in a true epic. Its about 40km total with about 30km of that being single track. It has about 1300m elevation gain and loss. The fastest I’ve ever done the entire loop is 2hr 45min, but its always nice to slow down and enjoy the journey so most intermediate groups would be 4-5hrs. Start and finish is at the Vedder River Rotary Trail. It really does circumnavigate the entire mountain.
After a gentle warm up on the rotary trail the ride goes up the duck farm trail network to the meet up with the vedder mountain ring road. At the southern most point of the mountain you take this nasty steep climb to get up to the hang gliders view point. Hang gliders has an unreal view of the entire Fraser Valley, its an excellent place to eat your pop tarts, and its the high point of the vedder super loop. From hang gliders you take a series of super fun multi use single track trails all the way back north and up over top to the Den. The Den is the highest mountain bike specific trail on the mountain and will bring you 750m down single track all the way to Cultus Lake. Its really the best day ever!
