The hills are alive with the sound of….trail runners. Yup, the excited chatter of these “off road runners”, can be heard everywhere on the mountains surrounding Cultus Lake these days. Some of them are just nature running enthusiasts that enjoy the hundreds of paths and trails on the mountainsides around Chilliwack, but more than likely if you see a group of runners on Vedder Mountain these days it is because they are training for the “Around the Lake Give’r Take” 30 km trail race. In recent years the race has attracted over a hundred runners who compete either as a relay team or run the whole 30 km around the lake. This year’s race sold out quickly as registrations were at an all-time high and had to be capped at 200.

Sadly, this year because of a broken foot, I am unable to compete, but in past years I have
convinced my husband Keith to run the race in costume to make light of the grueling 30 km distance. Now, how many men can say they have run 30km in a batman cape and a purple tutu! My husband is such a great sport! Even though I won’t be on the course this year, you can bet I will be at the finish line to cheer on all our local trail runners. So if you aren’t doing anything on Saturday October 18th
