Skis
Resort vs Backcountry vs Resort / Backcountry
• Resort - Heavier, handle variable conditions better
• Backcountry - Lighter, not as capable in variable conditions
• Backcountry / Resort - Able to handle variable snow well but also light enough that ski touring isn't too painful
Width
• Below 95mm - Touring focus, spring skiing, traverses, firm snow to shallow powder
• 95-106mm - Daily driver, all mountain, most snow conditions
• 106mm+ - Powder focused, deepest days
Construction & Weight
• Less than 1500g (backcountry) - Lighter materials with less wood and more carbon/foam. More of these lighter materials means it doesn't perform as well (chatter) in variable conditions.
• More than 1500g (backcountry/resort) - Heavier materials with more wood. Wood provides dampening properties for variable condition performance.
