Description
The Hy Free is ATK's hybrid binding, built to blur the line between freeride and ski touring. It delivers downhill performance on par with an alpine binding, with the responsiveness and precise power transfer to the ski that implies, yet it weighs just 675 g per binding. All 22 structural parts per half pair are machined from solid aluminum, so it's as durable as it is light.
In ski mode the boot sits flat on the ski, which removes the toe-to-heel pin-height difference of a standard pin binding and gives an alpine-like feel. The alpine-inspired heel clamps give a strong sense of control, and an adjustable AFD with included spacers lets you dial in compatibility with different sole types. On the way up, the toe arms flip up for walking, a unique negative walk mode drops the heel below toe level to ease strain in stiff freeride boots, and two heel risers are easy to switch with a pole. The Hy Brake System locks the brake in walk mode and releases it automatically when you go back to ski mode. It's compatible with alpine, GripWalk and ISO 9523 touring-style boots (not tech-only boots).
